alot has to do with the camera your using. actually, theres a ton of different stuff you need to take into account. awhile back shad had something about getting started with photography on this site. i dont know if its still on here and im too lazy to search for it.

doesnt matter really what camera ur using mostly it matters of what your camera settings are if its night time u wanna set ur iso light settings to the condition your working with also your appiture u always have to account how much light your lens is taking in at a time. Ive found out that when u are taking photos of skating at night or really any photos taken at night a couple external flashes with a nice 28-80mm lens is the key to getting crisp nicly focused shots. the flashes are a big part of it tho for sure invest in some external flases at about 100 dollors a pop if your running wires. If you want to go wireless its gonna be about 200 for two pocket wizards and a wireless slave for your secondary external flash

i totally agree mayn. flashes is the first thing you want to get. just get like two of them. right now im using a vivitar 285 running wires but watever and then i have a little and i mean tiny slave with a tiny flash just for some fill it works nicely but yeah iso settings to whatever ur shooting. i would run 500 as the shutter cause anything under 500 catchs movment and iso settings 200-400 apiture all the way down. theres a great night photo and just get the sickest angle you can and there ya go! hahaha
