Holy videos!
When I was younger I remember just jonesin’ for new skateboard videos. Anything I could get my hands on, really. If we were lucky, maybe like, two or three came out a year. The countdown to Plan B’s Virtual Reality was definitely a memorable one for me. Maybe the anticipation for Goldfish and Mouse from Girl were too…
Fast forward to 2006 and, Jesus Christ, Podcasting, videos, trailers, footage and free DVDs are ruining my life! Somehow I used to be a writer, but not anymore! Not only am I filming, compressing, converting, editing and uploading video all day long for etnies.com and robbrink.com, but every morning when I get to work and open up all my skateboard site bookmarks, it’s a goddamn blitzkrieg of videos to watch. Oh and that doesn’t even count all the crap that downloads into my iTunes automatically and fills up my hard drive every two days. Gigabyte hell!
I mean, if this was goin’ on 15 years ago I would have been stoked, but what human on Earth could possibly have enough time to watch all this—regardless of how footage-hungry they may be? No joke dude, I spent over an hour yesterday just watching all the videos that different videos that SkateDaily, TransWorld, Thrasher and Skateboard Mag’s websites linked to in ONE DAY. Footage from some kids in the middle of West Bumblefuck USA and crap. Calm down people! I ended up with like, 56,000 free DVDs from ASR too. Shit man. How is it that people are making videos faster than I can watch them? Everyone used to bitch that 411 put too much stuff out. The age-old played out “quantity vs. quality” argument, right? Now 411 is like, the least of our worries. It’s getting to the point where I have to hire my own intern to be on promo video “banger watch” for me. Anyone interested?
I’d write more on the topic but its time for me to go upload some more footage…
